German public broadcaster ARD plans to further expand its streaming offer in 2020 to compete with providers such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney, Heise Online reports. Viewers would be able to watch TV series in the media library either before their broadcast on TV or exclusively, only in streaming.

ARD will start to build its VoD library “with full force” from 01 September next year, the broadcaster said.

Initially, it will give to the viewers the possibility to stream the mini series Oktoberfest - 1900 before it will air on TV. Other productions include The secret of the dead forest and The Defector. The Swedish series Commissar Backstrom can be streamed for six months only in the media library of ARD too.
