Italian broadcaster Sky Italia has acquired free-to-air channel MTV Italia from Viacom International as part of a deal that will also see the partners launch two new branded channels, Teen Nick and MTV Next. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed. MTV Italia, which occupies channel 8 on the digital terrestrial platform, will continue to distribute Viacom content combined with programming from Sky Italia, including daily news from Sky TG24.
As part of the multi-year deal, the companies also launched the interactive channel MTV Next on 01 August and announced the launch of Teen Nick by the end of the year. In addition, Viacom content will be available on Sky On Demand while select channels will be accessible on the Sky Go streaming platform by the end of the year. Finally, Viacom will launch Nickelodeon and MTV apps in Italy in 2016 to allow consumers to interact with content via mobile devices.
