Pay-TV operator Sky is preparing to launch an advanced set-top box dubbed SkyQ, reports The Telegraph newspaper. Sky hopes the new box will help integrate its operations across Europe and be a strong weapon in its UK pay-TV battle with BT. According to industry insiders, the new box will offer satellite TV customers an 'Apple and Netflix-style' experience. It is expected to be unveiled within weeks.

The new hardware is being developed under a programme called 'Project Ethan' and will reportedly allow users to watch and record at least four programmes at the same time on multiple devices. To prepare for the launch, Sky is also understood to have renegotiated its rights agreements with broadcasters to 'side-load' programmes from the SkyQ box onto mobile devices.
