The Russian pay-TV market reached 38.7 million subscribers at the end of June, an increase of 2.4 million from a year earlier, according to figures collected by Tdaily.ru. In the second quarter alone, 700,000 new subscribers were added, and penetration rose by around 1 percent to 69 percent.
Tricolor TV led the market with 11.415 million customers, followed by Rostelecom with 8.200 million. MTS accounted for 2.805 million customers at the end of June, OrionExpress 2.700 million and ER-Telecom 2.665 million. Tricolor showed the strongest growth in Q2, of 3.8 percent. Its general director Alexei Kholodov told TelecomDaily that growth was helped by the simplification of its offer and more HD channels and equipment.
