The UK Government is considering proposals to sell off Channel 4's headquarters in London and move the broadcaster to Birmingham, reports The Telegraph. Ministers are debating the future of Channel 4 in parallel to preparations for renegotiating the BBC Charter. Unnamed government sources said that the Channel 4 headquarters on Horseferry Road in Westminster could be sold to raise funds for the Exchequer, with the state-owned broadcaster then moving to Birmingham to help boost the media industry outside London. A valuation conducted at end-2014 showed that the freehold building in London could sell for GBP 85 million on the open market. It is understood that no decision has been made and this is one of several options being discussed as part of Government plans to overhaul public service broadcasters.
