South Africa's Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi has welcomed the ruling of North Gauteng High Court on set-top boxes. In a statement, Muthambi said the ruling will now allow the digital migration process to progress and be concluded as soon as possible so that the benefits can be realized. The court has affirmed the amendments to the Broadcasting Digital Migration policy gazetted on the 18 March as in the best interest of the public. The Gauteng High Court ruled against broadcaster e.tv in its challenge of the government's decision not to encrypt set-top boxes for digital broadcasts. Judge WRC Prinsloo dismissed the case and ordered that the applicant e.tv pay costs of the respondents as well. Prinsloo said that he saw no basis for an argument that Muthambi misunderstood the effect of the encryption amendment
