British Sky Broadcasting has defended the loss of UEFA Champions League football to BT. In a statement to mark the end of the football season, Sky said that its sports customers were more interested in domestic football competitions, adding that its Champions League audiences had fallen by 38 percent over the last five seasons. Sky said that the last season saw the lowest ever average match audience and that not one single European game appeared in its top 40 football games. Overall, Champions League accounts for only 2.5 percent of Sky Sports viewing, with Sky insisting that Premier League viewing is seven times higher.
