Mexican pay-TV subscriptions soared to a total of 16.4 million at the end of the first quarter, a 7.1 percent year on year rise, according to figures from CIU reported in local business daily El Financiero. The increase was mainly due to lower prices driven by greater competition and the fact Televisa was declared a dominant player in the pay-TV market after acquiring Cablecom last year. In terms of operators, Sky leads the pay-TV market with a 40.0 percent share, followed by Dish with 15.4 percent, Megacable with 15.2 percent and Cablecom with 7.6 percent.
