Arianespace has announced that an Ariane 5 rocket carrying the DirecTV-15 and Sky Mexico-1 direct-to-home relay satellites for digital television services will launch on 27 May from French Guiana. DirecTV-15 is an Airbus Defence and Space-built satellite based on the Eurostar E3000 platform that will provide services in the Ku-, Ka- and R-bands for the 20 million-plus customers of US-based DirecTV.
Sky Mexico-1, meanwhile, is an Orbital ATK-produced satellite built using the GeoStar-2 platform. Equipped with Ku- and R-band transponders, the satellite will be operated for Sky’s Mexican subsidiary, which is owned by Mexico’s Grupo Televisa and DirecTV, providing direct-to-home television broadcast services to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
