Showtime offers Spotify upgrades for Billions

    Michelle Clancy | 18 January 2016

US premium network Showtime is offering Spotify users the ability to upgrade to a complimentary premium membership, timed to the series premiere of its new drama series, Billions.

The drama melds the worlds of ultra-wealth, influence and corruption as personified in two opposing figures: hard-charging, blue-blooded, politically connected US Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti); and brilliant, calculating, blue-collar billionaire hedge fund king, Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod (Damian Lewis). Set amongst the Machiavellian machinations of New York City power politics and finance, Billions weaves a complex, intricate narrative featuring a high-stakes game of predator-versus-prey.

Showtime will offer non-premium users the chance to win a three-month ‘Billionaire Status’ premium membership. Winners, selected at random, will receive an email with instructions on how to activate the free upgrade, in addition to information about the series.

The network is also allowing viewers an early look at the premieres of the new drama series and the returning comedy Shameless across multiple platforms.

De pay-off luidt: ‘book yourself fabulous’.

    Joseph O'Halloran | 18 January 2016

As it continues its expansion, especially in over-the-top (OTT), content and platform protection firm Friend MTS has appointed Chris White to the position of senior solutions architect.

Chris WhitePreviously responsible for designing, building and supporting the OTT infrastructure at Piksel for pay-TV providers including Sky, Channel 4, OSN and AT&T, White will have the principal task of strengthening his new company’s international service offering.

In his career, in which he has more than 15 years’ experience as a solutions architect, White has also consulted on digital architecture and development for BBC as well as a number of other professional services companies. He also contributed to creating premium online video platforms for a variety of international markets.

Commenting on his new role, he said: “Having worked in the media industry for over ten years I'm well aware of the issues that content piracy can cause content owners and broadcasters. Friend MTS has best-in-class solutions and technology that solve this growing problem, and with the global increase in video consumption and the emergence of new standards such as 4K is an exciting time to be involved in anti-piracy solutions.”

Brown added: “It’s great to have someone with Chris’s extensive international experience on board. We’re expanding our international offering quite rapidly so his experience, especially in the Middle East will be really valuable going forward.
