    HOOQ inks content deal with Shemaroo

    Asian video-on-demand (VOD) service HOOQ has sealed a deal to distribute Bollywood content from Shemaroo's vast content library of films, TV series and fitness videos.


    The subscription VOD (SVOD) service, owned by Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros, launched in India in May 2015. HOOQ will now add 30,000 hours of Shemaroo content to that already on offer from Yash Raj Films, among others.

    Shemaroo's catalogue includes the titles Hunterrr, The Dirty Picture, Ishqiya, Don, Kaalia, Khuda Gawah, Mughal-E-Azam, Nukkad, Shilpa's Yoga and Bipasha's Fit & Fabulous.

    "Partnering with Shemaroo Entertainment, one of the largest content houses in the country, will no doubt strengthen our ever-growing catalogue. We aim to satisfy the entertainment needs of the Indian consumers by ensuring that they continue to enjoy the largest and best catalogue of Hollywood and Indian content for only Rs199 per month," said Peter Bithos, CEO, HOOQ.

    Director of Shemaroo Entertainment Jai Maroo added: "We are excited to partner with HOOQ for Indian content. With increasing numbers of devices and users, the consumption of content on these platforms will certainly see an upward swing. We believe that services like this will catalyse consumers' shift towards premium paid services and thus will ultimately benefit content owners like us. The deal affirms our focus to deliver quality content to our consumers on a variety of media and a network of their choice."

    As well as offering VOD, subscribers can download up to five of their favourite Hollywood movies to watch at a later time, a feature HOOQ says differentiates the service from its competitors.

    RR Media joins joiz to launch viewer engagement tools

    Digital media services provider RR Media has announced a partnership with community marketing platform, joiz, to offer next-generation user engagement and loyalty club tools.


    Targeted at broadcasters, content owners and rights holders, the two companies' offerings are designed to connect TV, mobile and Web to build communities and monetise audiences by enhancing user experiences and turning passive viewers into engaged consumers on any screen.

    All of RR Media's content management, channel playout and smart global distribution network capabilities will be integrated with joiz's platform. RR Media will be managing all services, from the set-up stage to operation of the platform and beyond, leaving content owners and broadcasters free to focus on content creation.

    With the new solution, say the two firms, content owners and broadcasters will have a greater opportunity to personalise their offering to audiences with the use of real-time user and social media data to create dynamic programming. They add that content owners and broadcasters will gain new ways to interact, engage and target viewers to a far greater extent. The offer is also claimed to be unique in the way it creates a deep level of integration between playlist, assets, screen delivery and social engagement.

    AMC launches new programming and premieres for BT TV

    Hot on the heels of capturing the next Ashes cricket from Australia, BT is now celebrating a hugely significant addition to its entertainment portfolio with new programming and premieres from AMC Global.


    105The move is designed to coincide with the exclusive launch of the content giant's programmes on BT TV on 28 August and will see AMC from BT feature programming from Icon Film Distribution, Lionsgate, Miramax, Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Television.

    From launch on 28 August, AMC will be the exclusive home of this summer's most anticipated new series, Fear the Walking Dead, a companion series to global hit, The Walking Dead, the leading show on US TV among adults 18-49.

    AMC from BT will also feature the exclusive UK television premieres of top films, including Only
    God Forgives starring Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott Thomas on 29 August. Two of the most acclaimed original AMC series, Breaking Bad and Mad Men, will also be seen on the channel in the UK as part of agreements with Sony Pictures Television and Lionsgate respectively, alongside popular movies and series from both distributors. All seven seasons of Mad Men will debut with a special double bill with a new episode following each Sunday.

    AMC from BT will also showcase the first window premieres of original series Cleaners acquired from Sony Pictures Television and two seasons of Manhattan from Lionsgate as well as eight seasons of the comedy-drama Weeds.

    4K 4Charity Fun Run sponsorship and participant numbers run on

    As IBC comes ever closer, the value and participant levels of the event's 4K 4Charity Fun Run are becoming ever higher.


    Taking place at this year's IBC on Saturday 12 September 2015, the 4K 4Charity Fun Run Series commemorates major Ultra HD achievements by the global media and entertainment industry and the technology vendors who support it.

    Elemental Technologies, together with co-founding sponsor Ericsson, is using the 4K 4Charity Fun Run to raise funds for CARE. The organisation aims to fight global poverty and focusing on community-based efforts to improve basic education, end gender-based violence, provide healthcare and nutrition, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources.

    As of 24 August 2015, the Corporate Challenge Leaderboard Standings for the 4K 4Charity Fun Run showed that there were 61 companies participating with 136 registered participants. Registration donations currently stand at €3,505 with corporate sponsorship donations at €21,600.

    Elemental Technologies is currently ahead of the pack when it comes to registration donations with €695, followed by NTT Electronics Corporation (€180), Rovi (€160), V-Nova (€160) and Dolby (€145).

    Elemental has also provided the lion's share of runners for the event (16). NTT has called up nine and V-Nova one two fewer, five from both Dolby and Tektronix.

    Amazon Prime launches HDR Ultra HD content

    Needing to keep raising the bar as it battles it out with the likes of Netflix and Hulu, Amazon has revealed that it will now offer high dynamic range (HDR) content to members of its Prime service in the UK, Germany, Austria and the US.


    Amazon has been offering blockbuster films, TV shows and Amazon Original series to Prime members and customers in 4K/Ultra HD over recent months. HDR brings to 4KTV screens greater contrast, brighter colours, enhanced shadow details and distinct highlights to make images appear vivid, rich and more life-like.

    Amazon Prime Such members will be able to stream such online video content at no additional cost. The first titles available are season one of Mozart in the Jungle as well as the pilot episode of the upcoming comedy series, Red Oaks. The company added that additional titles in HDR and **** expanded device compatibility can be expected later in 2015 as it continues to work with Hollywood studios, technology firms and global consumer electronics companies to expand the Amazon HDR experience.

    "HDR provides a truly stunning visual experience and we're excited that our original series, Mozart in the Jungle and the pilot episode of Red Oaks are the first titles to be made available in the unmatched picture quality," commented Jay Marine, VP Amazon Instant Video EU.     Reaching more than 40 million homes, BlackArrow provides software solutions that help the global pay-TV industry deliver more timely and efficient sales and marketing messages, extend TV services to new platforms, and gain real-time measurement and audience insights across multiple screens. BlackArrow customers include leading pay-TV operators such as Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Charter Communications, Bright House Networks, Rogers Communications, Liberty Global and Virgin Media.

    The addition of BlackArrow to the Cross MediaWorks family will expand the types of products and services the company can offer to pay-TV operators and advertisers on a worldwide basis. BlackArrow software products enable inventory owners to manage, sell, and optimize their own inventory.     Troiano will join Barry Baker and Bob Wright, senior advisors to Lee Equity Partners, on the Board of Directors of Cross MediaWorks, a Lee Equity Partners portfolio company.     Magyar Telekom introduces Magenta1

    Magyar Telekom has launched a unique integrated offer aimed at the Hungarian residential telecom market.

    Known as Magenta1, it includes the TV GO service, which is provided free of charge, along with Moziklub (MovieClub) service, provided on an unlimited basis within Hungary. Significantly, in the case of mobile subscriptions included in the Magenta1 package, accessing TV GO does not consume the data volume included in the subscriptions.

    Another feature of the service is a terminal offer that provides a discount of HUF20,000 (€63.5) in the case of a TV set and smartphone of the same manufacturer when purchased together.

    Commenting on Magenta1, Christopher Mattheisen, CEO of Magyar Telekom, said: “We are convinced that we have the best answer meeting the demands of our customers, as the offer unifies the true advantages of the most advanced networks and complex services. Introducing Magenta1 is an important milestone within the market of integrated telecommunication services, and at the same time a further step towards the world of unlimited communication and entertainment”.

    Aside from Hungary, Magenta1 is available in several Telekom markets including Germany, Slovakia and Romania.

    3 Screen Solutions selects Metrological for TV apps

    3 Screen Solutions (3SS) has joined the preferred content partnership programme of Dutch TV app provider Metrological to develop new applications and services for pay-TV operators.

    The partnership will help content providers to design, develop and deliver apps enriching the pay-TV viewing experience for consumers, according to 3SS.

    Apps developed by 3SS, a German provider of customised software solutions and services to the multiscreen digital entertainment industry, will be published in the Metrological app library, giving operators the ability to pick and choose app line-ups that are best suited for their customer base. By using the Metrological application platform and open source SDK, apps only need to be developed once to run on all set-top boxes across more than 20 million homes.

    The Metrological application platform also includes business intelligence solutions and monetisation tools that help content owners to further leverage their brand and increase revenue.

    AMC announces line-up for UK launch

    The UK premiere of Fear the Walking Dead will form the centrepiece of the new AMC schedule when the UK version of the channel goes live on 28 August.

    On Sunday, the show’s premiere became the number one series premiere in US cable television history across total viewers and all key demographics. It’s sister show The Walking Dead debuted at number 5 back in 2010.

    Episode One of Fear the Walking Dead will be made available free of charge on the BT Showcase Channel and on the new AMC channel, which will be available to BT TV and BT Sport Pack subscribers. The channel will also premiere the acclaimed drama Rectify from the producers of Breaking Bad on 1 September at 9pm.
