WE tv explores breaking up with Ex Isle

    Michelle Clancy | 21 August 2015

Broadcaster WE tv has just given the green light to Ex Isle, a dating and relationship show set on a secluded, beautiful tropical island.

Couples are joined by show host Carmen Electra and guided on their emotional journey by Dr Ish Major, a psychiatrist specialising in women, children and families and an expert on broken relationships.

WE tv has ordered ten, one-hour episodes, which are currently in production, to join the network in 2016.

"Ex Isle is a concept that's completely untapped in the world of dating and relationship shows, but one that's familiar to so many of us," said Marc Juris, WE tv's president. "The couples featured will be given the tools and guidance to let go of the past and finally move towards building emotionally healthy and productive relationships. Viewers will witness a transformational journey that's captivating, entertaining and relevant."

Set in the Dominican Republic at the luxurious Casa de Campo Resort, five former couples will go through an intense and emotional journey led by Dr Major. With his help, the couples will go through a unique, multi-step process designed to help them break free from the past. Then, in an unexpected twist, ten singles will arrive at the resort, giving the exes a fresh chance. Along the way, show host Carmen Electra will share her own relationship stories

"This is probably one of the most relatable shows I have been a part of," said show creator and executive producer, SallyAnn Salsano. "We all have exes and have been these people. You feel their pain and heartbreak like it's your own; you root for them as they heal and find new love... it is an emotional rollercoaster and I don't want to miss a second."

EUTELSAT hails successful launch of 8 West B satellite

    Editor | 21 August 2015

In what is a very happy 30th of its kind, Arianespace has announced that the EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite has reached its intended initial orbital position.

19851850055 54a40d8a8e mDelivered by an Ariane 5 rocket on 20 August from Kourou, French Guiana, the 5.8 tonne satellite completed partial deployment of its solar panels within four hours of separation. EUTELSAT 8 West B will enter full commercial service in early October from the 7/8° West neighbourhood. The craft is intended to offer greater choice for over 52 million TV homes in the Middle East and North Africa occupied by Eutelsat and Nilesat satellites. It is equipped with 40 physical Ku-band transponders designed primarily to serve DTH TV markets in its target region and to increase capacity and in-orbit security at the premium video neighbourhood. It will also introduce a C-band mission, with ten physical transponders connected to footprints covering the African continent and reaching west to South America.

"The launch of EUTELSAT 8 West B opens a new chapter in the growth story of the leading neighbourhood in the Middle East and North Africa," commented Eutelsat www.eutelsat.comm deputy CEO and chief commercial and development officer Michel Azibert. "We have gained the trust of market-leading media groups and service providers who look to 7/8° West to accelerate their growth. Dutch cable loses broadband customers

For the first time since cable broadband was introduced in the Netherlands, the number of cable broadband connections saw a quarterly decrease during the second quarter of 2015, according to the latest research from Telecompaper.

The broadband market ended June 2015 with a total 7.026 million mass market connections, growing by 0.3% during the quarter. Broadband via cable connections fell by 0.3% over the same period, leading to a drop in cable’s market share to just over 46%.

The market growth was driven by fibre broadband connections, which increased by almost 5.5% during the second quarter to more than 12% of the market. DSL continued its downward path, with a loss of 0.4% during the quarter to end with almost 41.5% of connections.

Ziggo, the largest cable operator in the Netherlands, reported a net loss of about 11,000 broadband customers during the second quarter to end June 2015 with 46.3% of the broadband market, down by 0.3%. Despite the loss in market share in the most recent quarter, Ziggo is still the largest broadband provider.

Number two KPN (including Telfort, XS4ALL and the Edutel brands) had a market share of 40.4%, after gaining 0.3% during the quarter. The operator added 31,000 broadband customers during the second quarter, driven by growth in fibre connections.

Despite the increasingly saturated market, the researchers expect that the broadband market will grow by 2.3% in 2015. Cable is expected to return to growth in the second half and fibre will continue its gains, offsetting the steady decrease in DSL users. For the period 2015-2019, Telecompaper expects a CAGR of 1.9% per year in the number of broadband connections.

Telecompaper estimates the Dutch broadband market (consumer and SOHO) was worth over EUR 457 million in retail revenue in the second quarter of 2015. The revenues are expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.0% over the five-year period 2015-2019.

    Canal tests in UHD

Canal+ has launched a test channel in the Ultra HD format.

The French-language Tele Satellite reports the channel has been seen on the Astra 1L satellite.

But no subscriber will be able to view the channel because the paycaster doesn’t yet have a commercially available UHD receiver.

Canal is said to be developing a UHD capable version of its famous Le Cube set-top, but that won’t be available until 2016.

Astra operator SES now broadcasts UHD demonstration channels across Europe using three orbital positions (19.2 degrees East, 28.2 degrees East and 5 degrees East). The 19.2 degrees East orbital position was also used for a test broadcast of the Champions League final produced by UEFA in UHD on 6 June 2015.
