"With a highly successful, 30-year track record of selling into the media and entertainment, commercial enterprise and government industries, Suzette is an authority on consultative sales and workflow efficiencies delivering advanced digital file-based storage, networking and high performance computing solutions in a trusted relationship," the company noted.

Ferguson began her career at Ampex Corp and Abekas Video Systems in the mid-1980s, managing accounts in broadcast and post production in the North-western United States. Trinity Broadcasting anointed leading religious broadcaster

    Michelle Clancy
    | 02 June 2014

Trinity Broadcasting Network, the channel from Christian broadcast pioneers Paul and Jan Crouch, is now the farthest-reaching religious broadcaster in the nation, with 37 digital broadcast stations.

In addition to the 37 stations, the faith-and-family network has expanded to more than 100 million homes via 8,000 cable and satellite affiliates.

TBN vice president Matthew Crouch noted that the network's over-the-air presence represents an integral part of the strategy pursued by TBN's founder, the late Paul Crouch. "Even as the cable revolution stormed across America in the 1970s and '80s," he said, "my father realised that millions of individuals and families would continue to rely on classic over-the-air television. And over the years he made sure that those viewers — and their communities — would have access to the wholesome, inspirational programming that is TBN's hallmark."

TBN has full-power TV stations in such major metropolitan areas as New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix and Denver, as well as in smaller communities like Richmond, Indiana, Harlingen, Texas, Canton, Ohio, Memphis, Tennessee and Fort Pierce, among others.

In addition to multicasting TBN's top faith-and-family networks 24 hours a day, each of the 37 full-power stations has its own studio, producing local ministry and community affairs programs, as well as a local version of TBN's Praise the Lord music and talk show. A handful of stations in venues like Nashville, Orlando, New York City, Dallas, and a few other cities also have state-of-the-art studio facilities that produce national — and international — programming for TBN.

LG sells one million webOS-enabled Smart+ TVs

    June 2, 2014 08.40 Europe/London By Robert Briel

LG webOSLG Electronics has announced that more than one million units of its webOS-enabled Smart+ TVs have been sold since the launch of the lineup in March.

LG expects sales to reach ten million units by the first half of 2015.

“Reaching the one million mark in just three months is a significant achievement in the TV industry,” said In-kyu Lee, SVP and head of the TV division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company.

“Rather than continuing to add more and more functions into our smart TVs that few people will ever use, we’ve decided to focus on simplicity with our 2014 Smart+ TVs with webOS. Consumers seem to share our view that this is the right direction for the evolution of smart TVs going forward.”

LG is quickly rolling out its Smart+ TV models globally and expects to be in over 150 markets by the end of the month. The company will also expand the presence of LG Smart+ TV Experience Zones in a number of major consumer electronics retail locations to give, in the words of the manufacturer, “more consumers the opportunity to experience the convenience and unmatched simplicity offered by LG’s Smart+ TVs.”

    Astra 5B goes into service

    June 2, 2014 08.56 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Astra 5B has officially gone live in the 31.5 degrees East orbital position over CEE, Russia and the CIS.

The spacecraft, which was successfully launched by an Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou, French Guyana on March 24, provides DTH as well as direct-to-cable services and contribution feeds to DTT networks in its target markets.

Astra 5B was built by Airbus Defence and Space Systems in Toulouse, based on the Eurostar E3000 platform, and is quipped with 40 Ku-band transponders (36 MHz equivalent) and 6 Ka-band transponders.

It also carries the second SES hosted L-band payload for the European Commission’s European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS).

EGNOS helps to verify, improve and report on the reliability and accuracy of positioning signals in Europe.
Astra 5B replaces Astra 1G at 31.5 degrees East

Commenting on the satellite, Martin Halliwell, CTO at SES, said: “In line with our well-defined strategy, Astra 5B greatly increases SES’s satellite capacities over CEE, Russia and the CIS. With the Operational Service Date (OSD) of Astra 5B, SES has as of today 1,536 active satellite transponders on its global satellite fleet, comprising 55 active spacecraft at 37 orbital slots around the world. We would like to thank our European partners at Airbus Defence and Space Systems and Arianespace for the successful Astra 5B mission.”

Freeview World Cup campaign aims for HD

    June 2, 2014 09.21 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Ahead of the World Cup Freeview has unveiled a new advertising campaign that aims to capture both sides of the football divide.

The multi-platform campaign, entitled Love or Hate Football, centres on a new TV ad, challenging viewers to watch whatever it is they love in HD.

The ad goes live on Monday with two versions cut for lovers and haters of the beautiful game. While actor Ricky Tomlinson (Mike Bassett England Manager) explains how fans can see the goals in HD, comedian David Walliams explains that for those who want to escape the games, Freeview has 10 HD channels.

Owen Jenkinson, Freeview’s Head of Marketing, said: “We know football fans are excited about the World Cup, but we also know that many of our viewers have no interest in the game at all. So this campaign is all about reminding all our viewers just how much choice there is to watch on Freeview.”

Freeview has also launched a short film to complement the ad campaign, emphasising that TV is more dramatic when there’s more detail thanks to HD picture quality and sound.

In recent months, further HD channels have been added to the Freeview platform. By the start of the Wimbledon Championships at the end of June, 70% of the UK will be able to enjoy 10 HD channels on Freeview.

UPC Ireland has signed a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement with mobile telecommunications operator Three. It follows the recent European Commission approval of Three’s acquisition of 02 Ireland.

At the launch at UPC’s Dublin headquarters Magnus Ternsjo, CEO of UPC Ireland said: “This is a strategic and exciting agreement which gives UPC the opportunity to provide another extraordinary product to consumers with the launch of mobile and to become a fully-fledged quad-play services provider.”

Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three Ireland added: “Today’s announcement further reinforces how Three’s acquisition of 02 Ireland will help drive competition by facilitating new entrants into the market, such as UPC. Three’s planned investment to develop a state-of-the art 4G network will benefit customers of Three and O2 as well as these new entrants.”

UPC’s parent company Liberty Global is in the process of launching mobile services in a number of countries across Europe. The UK’s Virgin Media already has an MVNO agreement in place.

Digital pay-TV penetration will rise from 36% in 2013 to 60.7% by 2020.

Meanwhile, pay-TV revenues will increase by $1.4 billion between 2010 and 2020 to reach $2.2 billion. DTH ARPUs are expected to increase, with cable and IPTV falling slowly.
