    Euronews returns to Sky UK

    2013-06-27

Euronews has renewed an agreement with the largest DTH platform in Europe - Sky UK, operating in the markets of Great Britain and Ireland. Agreement was extended until 2016, giving increased range station Euronews information to more than 10.7 million households in Great Britain and Ireland. Recall that Euronews is one of the leading international news channel in Europe, is available to viewers Sky UK since 2001.

Euronews renewing a contract with Sky UK platform is currently available in more than 10 million UK homes and 742 thousand. Irish House of set-top boxes Sky EPG on channel 508 in the package News.

Euronews offers to all its UK and Irish subscribers until 10 languages (Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish). Regret is that there is no Polish version of Euronews, which in the case of the UK and Ireland is a bit humiliating, because there are the largest number of Poles working abroad. Unfortunately Euronews Poland does not have a reliable partner who would pull the Polish version of the appropriate level. On the occasion of the Polish presidency in the European Union already gave Euronews Polish version of the program, but it failed. Poland, it is probably outside the Ukraine's largest nation in Europe, and especially in the EU, which does not have a national version of Euronews.

    Name change for French broadcaster
    June 28, 2013 08.13 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The French national media company that comprises RF1, France 24 and Monte Carlo Doualiya has been renamed France Médias Monde.
According to the company, this reflects its employees’ and managers’ desire for a name that is less administrative and easier to understand abroad.
It also coincides with the definition of a strategic plan, known as Contrat d’Objectif et de Moyens (COM), in the coming weeks.
Significantly, the new name, which replaces Audiovisuel Extérieur de la France, is not intended to replace the brands RF1, France 24 and Monte Carlo Doualiya, which will remain what the company describes as “the principal vectors of communication”.
France Médias Monde is now effective and will be gradually rolled out over the next few months through a domain name and modification of the company’s official documents.

Rebranded BT TV will deliver Sport over YouView boxes
    June 28, 2013 10.10 Europe/London By Julian Clover

BT Vision is to undergo a gradual rebrand as the telco comes close to the wire in its delivery of linear content over the YouView box.
Marc Watson, chief executive, TV, BT Retail told the Broadcasting Press Guild that the system – essential if it is to deliver its new suite of sports channels through its flagship set-top – was currently in trial. “It’s a problem that we can’t do that [run linear channels] on the YouView box from Day One, but if the customer comes to us we’ll give them a new box. It’s not ideal and hopefully we can address that, but there is a much bigger market out there.”
BT Sport will launch on August 1, with a three-channel suite offered free to customers of its broadband service, and with a £3 upgrade to an HD version.
There was no indication as to how many subscribers have so far called to have BT Sport switched on, however he reiterated the telco was in a long-term content play. “With all due respect to other companies, in particular Setanta and ESPN, we are not Setanta or ESPN. We don’t win or lose solely on how many customers sign up to our sports channel. We can win by retaining customers that otherwise might not have left BT and we can win by signing up customers that would not have otherwise chosen BT.”
Following its loss of Premier League packages, ESPN has withdrawn from the UK and European markets, while Setanta ultimately retracted to the Republic of Ireland, where it recently signed a distribution deal with BT.
Once the problem of channel delivery is solved, BT still has to cross the hurdle of Sky’s refusal to grant it access to the regulated Sky Sports 1 and 2. Earlier this month, the regulator Ofcom launched an investigation into the proposed wholesale supply of Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 to BT following a complaint from the telco.
Watson also confirmed that the BT Vision brand was being phased out. ”We are in the process of rebranding, so we’re going to call our set-top box services BT TV, within that we’re going to have a vision box and a YouView box under a umberella brand.”
Watson explained that BT TV would also include content that is delivered to customers directly online.

Uruguayan pay-TV operators ink agreement with Conax
    Juan Fernandez Gonzalez | 28-06-2013
Two Uruguayan pay-TV operators, Montecable and Nuevo Siglo, have incorporated Conax´s security solutions in their platforms to enable advanced multiscreen OTT and VOD services.
The agreement was announced during the NexTV Summit which took place in Buenos Aires.
Both Uruguayan companies will implement the Conax platform Hybrid DVB-C/IP for OTT solutions, which enables several services to be offered on-demand.
"Conax's integration is very important, since solutions are pre-integrated," explained Ezio Sanchez, Conax general manager for South America. "This means a smaller investment on the client's part and a much faster, easier and more secure service," he added.
Mario Oliveira, Nuevo Siglo's CTO, explained that the company chose the Conax solution because it "offers both a highly flexible, proven eco-system and the freedom to choose the OTT system components".
Federico de León, Montecable´s CTO, pointed out that "these solutions are enabling us to offer a highly unique market differentiator for tapping the new revenue streams offered by OTT content".
