Discovery captures historic Grand Canyon tightrope walk
    Editor | 24-06-2013
Discovery Channel is claiming huge interest for its screening of what was the first person ever to tightrope walk across over the Grand Canyon.
The channel’s Skywire Live With Nik Wallenda aired live across the United States and in 223 countries showing the so-called King of the High Wire make his highest ever walk 1,500 feet above the Little Colorado River.
“The Grand Canyon was a place I visited as a kid. For as long as I can remember, it has been a dream of mine to cross over such a spectacular setting,” said a clearly exultant Wallenda back on terra firma. “I’m incredibly grateful to the Navajo Nation for allowing me to accomplish my dream and the Discovery Channel for trusting in my abilities.”
Viewers around the world were able to join Wallenda through social media leading up to and during the historic walk, with Discovery Channel sharing insight about the walker through videos, pictures and #Skywire Tweets. US viewers also had the opportunity at SkywireLive.com to have an immersive six-camera multiplatform experience complementing the Discovery live on-air event.
“This was certainly history in the making,” added Eileen O’Neill, group president discovery and TLC Networks. “Nik inspires so many people around the world to follow their dreams. We are incredibly proud to have brought this event into so many homes across the country and around the globe.”

    Louise Duffy | 24-06-2013
Manchester United football club has announced the extension of its dedicated TV channel, MUTV, with three new agreements.
The three deals will see the channel team up with TV stations SkyNet and TV2 Norway, which for the first time will broadcast in Myanmar and Norway respectively, as well a two-year extension of its partnership with the Icelandic TV station, 365.
Established in 2010, the pay-TV platform broadcasts 84 channels including five HD channels and 20 in-house package channels, consisting of a mix of programme genres.
Manchester United commercial director, Richard Arnold, said: "Manchester United is fortunate enough to have 659 million followers around the globe, and the creation of agreements like the ones we have with SkyNet, TV2 and 365, allows us to bring them closer to the club they love. The new agreements mean that MUTV now has 22 international broadcast partners, covering 56 territories worldwide including parts of Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. Through our partnerships, tens of millions of people now have access to MUTV content.
"The dedicated channel already creates some unique and distinctive content and, with the development of our network of broadcast partners, we are able to invest in this further. By teaming up with reputable media houses like SkyNet, TV2 and 365 we can ensure that this content is delivered in right way, reaching key audiences."

DanceTrippin goes to the cloud with Your.TV
    June 25, 2013 06.17 Europe/London By Robert Briel

DanceTrippin switched from satellite distribution to cloud-based delivery by Your.TV.
Tim Metz, Managing Director of DanceTrippin, said the switch would provide “greater flexibility in localisation and image quality, which can now be adjusted and targeted on a per country (or even per platform) basis.”
Until now, DanceTrippin was distributed on the Astra 3 position at 23.5 degrees East.
The 24/7 dance music TV channel and UPC Netherlands have announced they will continue their cooperation. DanceTrippin will start to provide VOD titles of DJ sets for UPC’s customers on a weekly basis.
“UPC is one of the most important operators in The Netherlands, whilst the Dutch also fulfill a key-role in the dance music industry,” said Metz.
“We’re therefore very happy that after a trial year, UPC NL is satisfied with the results and wishes to continue and expand the partnership with DanceTrippin. This will allow us to further improve the content offering on the channel, as well as increase the amount of VOD we will be offering to their subscribers.”
The 24/7 dance music TV channel is available on cable and other TV platforms in several countries in Europe and Asia. DanceTrippin’s headquarters are based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

CSA to rule on web TV dispute
    June 25, 2013 04.50 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The French regulator CSA will decide on a dispute between France Télévisions and PlayTV, a site that offers 70 TV channels for free over the internet, by the end of July.
According to Le Figaro, this follows a hearing held at the CSA this Monday (June 24).
France Télévisions has accused the company Play Media, which launched PlayTV in 2010, of broadcasting the channels France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5 and France O without an agreement and also siphoning off commercial revenues from the group.
Play Media has grown into an increasingly important player, accounting for 30% of the live internet TV market and claiming 2.5 million visitors a month.
It has agreements in place with all the services it broadcasts, including sharing ad revenues, except France Télévisions, TF1 and M6.
