Hunger Games, Twilight see Lionsgate roar with revenue
    Editor | 01-06-2013

Strong performances by throughout its theatrical, home entertainment, international and UK operations, plus the Hunger Games and Twilight franchises, have contributed to a strong fiscal 2013 for Lionsgate.
The bottom line for fiscal 2013 year was revenue of $2.71 billion, up an impressive 71% year on year driving adjusted EBITDA of $329.7 million, compared with $71.6 million in the prior year, and net income of $232.1 million, the previous year Lionsgate had actually posted a net loss of $13.1 million.
Lionsgate's home entertainment revenue from both motion pictures and television was $964.1 million for the fiscal year, a 41% increase compared to $683.5 million in fiscal 2012.
Television revenue included in the Motion Picture segment was $277.9 million in fiscal 2013, more than doubling that generated in the prior year. Revenue in the Television Production segment in fiscal 2013 dipped though to $379.0 million from the $397.3 million in the prior year. The decline was primarily attributable to a decrease in entertainment revenue for television programming as the prior year included the licensing of four seasons of the popular MadMen series to over the top (OTT) leader Netflix. US and international licensing of television programming posted gains over the prior year.
"We completed a stellar fiscal 2013 with an outstanding fourth quarter that reflected strong contributions from our young adult franchises as well as the rest of our theatrical slate and our home entertainment and international businesses," said Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer. "We are performing ahead of plan for all of our metrics, and we're pleased with the financial strength of our diverse portfolio of businesses and our strong and growing momentum building Lionsgate into a next generation global content leader."
